SEMANA CULTURAL MEXICANA / MEXICAN CULTURAL WEEK

PANGEA y la Asociación Mexicana de León organizaron la Semana Cultural Mexicana – León No Te Rajes en la capital leonesa del 24 de octubre al 1 de noviembre de 2014 con motivo de la celebración del Día de Muertos en el país azteca. 

A través de distintas actividades se pretendió difundir su cultura, ofreciendo así una imagen positiva de la nación latinoamericana además de mostrar los muchos lazos de unión existentes entre ambos territorios. 
 

“La información que llega del otro lado del Atlántico es limitada y, la mayoría de las veces, centrada en aspectos negativos. Por eso queremos demostrar que México tiene un gran abanico de cosas muy buenas que compartir con el mundo”.

El evento comenzó el viernes 24 de octubre con un programa especial en la Radio Universitaria de León. En él, entre otras cosas, se detallaron los diferentes actos previstos y se explicaron la importancia y el significado del Día de Muertos en México.

El lunes 27 de octubre tuvo lugar uno de los platos fuertes. El American Beer (C/Fuero, 3) albergó un concierto de música y bailes mexicanos a cargo del trío de estudiantes de intercambio formado por Daniel Gutiérrez y los hermanos Ángelo y Greta Azuela, todos procedentes de León (Guanajuato), más la colaboración de Ángela Solé. Se rindió un homenaje a Frida Kahlo y se interpretaron algunas de las canciones y géneros más populares.

El día siguiente fue el turno del cine con la retransmisión de la película “Nosotros los Nobles” (CEL Working León – C/Condesa de Sagasta, 36).

El miércoles 29 de octubre, se celebró un taller de manualidades para niños de 1º E.P. en el colegio PP. Agustinos. “A través de este encuentro intercultural se busca que los más jóvenes empiecen a tener conciencia de la diversidad de personas que componen el planeta”. El acto comenzó con una breve explicación de la festividad y la proyección del cortometraje También mira a Yuya. A continuación, se realizaron tareas como pintura de calaveras de papel, creación de máscaras, maquillaje de caras o construcción de mini-esqueletos.

Ya en el ecuador de la semana, el Restaurante Cielito Lindo (C/Pablo Flórez, 26) fue el escenario de un coloquio sobre esta festividad y cómo se festeja en los diferentes estados. Valente Azuela (Guanajuato), Pilar Gómez (Morelos), Christ Magaña (Michoacán) y Benjamín Martínez (Coahuila) fueron los ponentes. Una pequeña muestra de la enorme variedad cultural del país azteca.

De cara al viernes 31 de octubre, este mismo restaurante acogió la construcción del famoso Altar de Muertos, decorado con toques y detalles de cada territorio. En esta ocasión se dedicó a algunos de los jóvenes recientemente fallecidos en Guerrero – Iguala. 

Finalmente el sábado 1 de noviembre, como colofón a este evento, se programó un karaoke con canciones mexicanas en el establecimiento Rombos (C/Burgo Nuevo, 18).

PANGEA and Asociación Mexicana de León organized the Mexican Cultural Week – León No Te Rajes in León (Spain) from October 24th to November 1st, 2014 due to the Dead's Day in the Aztec country. The aim was to spread its culture through a series of different activities, thus offering a positive image of the Latin American nation as well as showing the many bonds existing between both territories.

"The information that comes from the other side of the Atlantic Ocean is limited and, most of the times, focused on negative aspects. That's why we want to display that Mexico has a wide range of very good things to share with the world".

The event started off on Friday, October 24th with a special show at León University College Radio (www.radiouniversitaria.com). Among other things, it served to give details about the different activities and to explain the importance and meaning of Dead's Day in Mexico.

On Monday, October 27th there was one of the main attractions. American Beer (C/Fuero, 3) hosted a concert of Mexican music and dances performed by the exchange students Daniel Gutiérrez, Ángelo Azuela and Greta Azuela, all from León (Guanajuato - México), with the collaboration of Ángela Solé. It was a tribute to Frida Kahlo with some of the most popular songs and genres of the Mexican musical archive.

The following day the event moved to a cinema mood with the screening of the film "The Noble Family" (CEL Working León – C/Condesa de Sagasta, 36).

On Wednesday, October 29th, a workshop for primary pupils took place at school PP. Agustinos. “Through this intercultural encounter, we want the kids to begin rising awareness of how diverse the world population is". It began with a brief explanation of the festivity and the screening of the short film También mira a Yuya. After that, it was time for masks set-up, face make-up, or the set up of small skeletons.

At mid-week, Restaurante Cielito Lindo (C/Pablo Flórez, 26) hosted a speech about this festivity and how it is celebrated throughout the different states. Valente Azuela (Guanajuato), Pilar Gómez (Morelos), Christ Magaña (Michoacán) and Benjamín Martínez (Coahuila) were the lecturers. A small survey of the huge cultural variety of the Aztec country.

Regarding Friday, October, 31st this very same restaurant was home to build up the famous Altar de Muertos (Dead's Altar), decorated with features of every territory. It was dedicated, this time, to some of the recently died youngsters in Guerrero - Iguala. 

Last, but not least, on Saturday, November 1st, there was a karaoke with Mexican songs  at  Rombos (C/Burgo Nuevo, 18).
